Lamentation – Remembrance – HOPE

An Invitation to Join the Trinity Peace Crane Ministry Project

Lamentation – Remembrance – HOPE

We are folding orange origami peace cranes as a memorial to children (ages 0 – 17) who have died in the US as a result of gun violence. Our goal is to fold a crane for every child lost in 2022. Sadly, as of mid-July, that number stands at nearly 1,000 and will undoubtedly grow. (Over 20,000 people in the US have died as a result of gun violence in the first half of 2022.) If we know the name and age of a child, it will be written on the crane. As strings of cranes are completed they will be incorporated into the Gun Violence Memorial, adjacent to the Columbarium.

Folding cranes will not stop gun violence, but it is a spiritual practice that our ministry has found helpful, whether done individually or in a group. Folding is conducive to prayer and reflection, and when done in community the conversations we have and connections we make are healing. This project seeks to help us lament the tragedy of gun violence, remember victims, and create hope for the future.
